Farmhouse Kitchen Reveal

Wow its been a while.. Not intentionally, just Life has been happening.. Between the 2 kids keeping me busy, trying to work on myself and getting back in shape and oh ya sleeping in between feeds, still at 3 a night :(.. I have no time.. But today NAP time was kind to me.. They both did at the SAME TIME!! This almost never happens, my eldest doesn't always like to nap, so its a nice surprise when she does.. Finally Mommy could post our long awaited Kitchen Reno Reveal! So here you have it.. Our lengthened, more open concept Kitchen with a touch of Farmhouse Flair. See all the details by clicking below...

Just in case you're new here, Here is a little catch up .. We loved our kitchen style before just not the spacially awkward layout so we gave our mini island we made to my aunt, demo'd the breakfast bar for a more open concept feel. Extended the main wall of cabinets approx. 4ft by adding a small pantry, extra wide drawers and a plate rack. Then added the new focal point, a big 9ft kitchen island with sink and dishwasher. And because of all that, we needed new floors which led to us replacing all the hardwood on main floor for a cohesive look. I've included some Before and Afters comparison pictures. Below you can see our new hardwood and how we've opened up the space by adding a big island which allows me a complete view into our Family room so I can now converse with guests and keep an eye on my kiddos. (Which is the main reason we did this reno in the first place!)
Below is how our Kitchen looked before when we bought our house almost 3yrs ago now.
Surprisingly these are still the same cabinets just painted with bigger crown mouldings, a trimmed out decorative hood fan with freshly painted walls and now the addition of a few more cabinets, an island, new backsplash and new hardwood throughout. Phewf! we have been busy!
The cabinets were painted almost immediately after taking possession of our home.. Bye bye Orange! The cabinets are painted in BM Linen White #912. Our new island is painted BM Revere Pewter.
Here is a better, truer look at how the Revere Pewter looks on island.
I just love, love , love our new floors.. It is a 6" wide plank, engineered hardwood floor.
They are by Twelve Oakes in the 'Timberwolf' color. They have slight distressing and variations, they kind of give the barn board look I love without being overly Rustic.
With the new extension to our kitchen came a load of new storage, like our pots and pans drawers, my coveted plate rack, a 18" pantry cabinet and a pull out garbage drawer. It's so much easier to sort and take out garbage now! To keep cabinets from looking like an add-on.. We had to get matching crown and rip out some of the old crown to get a straight run of trim, a nice seamless look.. Then we had to replace ALL of the valance trim and add new valance lighting.. Let me tell you it caused a trickle effect with money :( But in the end its exactly what we wanted and needed for our family. I now have a FULL BABY DRAWER (drying rack for bottles etc hidden in one of our new pots and pan drawer.. Now I don't have all the clutter on my counters and have to hide bottles like I did for previous blog post pictures. :)
We went with a Quartzite-Granite for the countertops, In a 'Fantasy Brown' colour.. It kind of resembles the look of marble but a bit more durable. The way we purchased our quartzite is 2cm, then we got to choose our desired edge thickness.. we went with 2 1/4" thickness for the Island and 1 1/2" for the rest of kitchen as stove wouldn't have slid-in if we went with any thicker of an edge .. Typically they would just glue another piece under the 2cm granite piece to achieve a 'thicker look' BUT what can happen is you can really see the seam when binding the two pieces together especially when the pattern is busy like ours. So we decided to spend a few hundred dollars for ALL counters and get them to 'miter joint' the edge. Wow let me just say this is one of the best ways we have ever spent money! The look is overall pretty flawless. And I love how the sides of the counter is a continuation of the top pattern, it creates a seamless waterfall effect.
With the renovation we have decided to really shift things from beigey tones to a more greyish taupe theme. Below is a picture of our newly painted walls in BM Gray owl from BM Natural Linen. you can see where we removed the curtain rod tiebacks after the fact :(
Less Talking.. Here are some more pictures :) I have listed a source list below.

For the backsplash we went with a simple tongue and groove wood panel, painted in an off-white.
I wanted to keep our kitchen casual with lots of natural elements to tie into our wooden kitchen island pendants. Now we have some continuity with the rest of the house.
My most fav. addition yet is our fluted apron sink.. nothing says farmhouse more (well I can pretend!)
Its amazing! The sink is made from a fireclay material so overall its pretty durable... so far no complaints. The cabinet under the sinks knobs are by Cynthia Rowley I picked them up for under $15 for 6 at my local Homesense

We stuck with the oil rubbed bronze for all of the hardware. We re-used our faucet from previous kitchen as it was fairly new and we loved the style. I just love the cross vintage inspired taps. I also found this great sink strainer.. It's plastic but made to look like real oil rubbed bronze.. now I didn't cheap out.. for our previous sink I had a Real oil rubbed bronze strainer and it was super expensive and I had to be so careful and it still has scratch marks all over it.. so this time round this maintenance free plastic strainer option does the trick for less the half the cost.

I fell in love with these ticking stripe cushions the minute I saw them online and just knew I had to work them into our kitchen design somehow. So we bought the cushions first and then had to find stools to fit them.

We moved our tinier table from dining room into the breakfast nook and put the bigger table in there. Makes sense right? Its just that before we had such a HUGE eating area and tiny kitchen, such an odd concept.. Now It's just so much better with a smaller 6 seater table and bigger open kitchen.. We now actually eat dinner in our dining room, Every night since the Reno has been done.

    1. Hi Shelley, Thanks for coming by.. There are so many choices are there, I had a hard time too making a final decision. I love love love our bar stools they are sturdy and comfy.. The cushions make them so much more comfortable though.. We did have to put them together (approx 15mins per stool) but the price was super affordable so it was totally worth it. Best of luck in your decision making. :)

Hi Olivia thanks so much for coming by and for the comment about our chalkboard, funny enough I had been debating painting the frame to perhaps make it blend more with our updated kitchen, however your comment reminded me of why I purchased it in the beginning so thank you!!
